
Chana Dal Cheela

Chana Dal Cheela is a savory pancake made with soaked and ground chana dal with fresh coriander, ginger, chillies and onion for a bright and tasty flavor. Chana dal is naturally rich in plant based protein and fibre, which keeps you full for longer and gives you energy through out the day.

Chana dal is very good for diabetics because it has the glycemic index of just 8 , resulting in slow and steady release of sugar in blood. It prevents sharp spikes in blood glucose levels . Slightly crisp from the outside and soft from inside, these chana dal cheelas are very filling , yet easy and quick to prepare during the morning rush.

Chana dal Cheela
Ingredients
- 1 cup chana dal washed and soaked for 5-6 hours or overnight
- 1 small onion finely chopped
- 1 inch ginger chopped
- 1-2 green chillies chopped
- 2 tbsp fresh coriander chopped
- 1 tsp salt
- ½ cup water for grinding
- 2 tbsp oil
Instructions
- Wash the chana dal thoroughly , and soak in 2 cups of water preferably overnight or minimum 5-6 hours.
- Drain out the water. Add the soaked dal to a mixer jar along with ginger ,green chillies and water . Grind into a smooth batter.
- Add salt, chopped onion and chopped fresh coriander . Adjust the consistency by adding more water if needed. It should be not be thin. It should be thick but pourable.
- Preheat a non stick pan to low medium heat. Lightly grease it with oil.
- Pour a ladleful of batter and spread it evenly in circular shape. Cook on medium heat for 2-3 minutes. Add a few drops of oil and then carefully flip the cheela.
- Drizzle few drops of oil and cook for 2-3 minutes or until the cheela has golden edges and spots.
- Take the cheela out on a plate and make remaining cheelas in the same manner.
- Serve hot with green chutney and tomato ketchup.
