Bakery Style Paneer Hot dogs

Paneer hot dogs are a desi vegetarian twist on classic dish which is traditionally made mainly with meat sausages. It is a fantastic combination of Paneer, peppers , spices and your favorite sauces , making it irresistible for kids and grown ups alike . Everyone will love these delicious rolls with vibrant flavors and textures.

 

The filling of these rolls can be made in advance and refrigerated. They are completely adaptable and you can play around with different fillings and sauces. You can use schezwan sauce or you can use tandoori masala for paneer instead of pav bhaji masala. Sweet corn or lettuce can be added for texture. The possibilities are endless.

Paneer hot dogs are very quick to make and a very good option for kids parties or a tasty vegetarian option for a Barbecue.

Bakery Style paneer hot dogs

Golden buttery buns filled with spicy and tangy paneer masala. Fusion food at its best !!

Ingredients
  

  • 1 tsp cumin seeds
  • 2 tbsp oil
  • 2-3 garlic cloves finely chopped
  • 1 inch ginger finely chopped
  • 1 green pepper finely chopped ( or you can take 1/2 green and 1/2 red)
  • 2 green chilles chopped (skip if making for kids)
  • 1 tsp turmeric powder
  • 1 tsp red chilli powder
  • 1 tbsp coriander powder
  • 1 tbsp pav bhaji masala
  • ΒΌ tsp garam masala
  • 3 tomatoes chopped finely
  • 1 tbsp tomato ketchup
  • 1 tbsp red chilli sauce (skip if making for kids)
  • 250 gms paneer chopped into small cubes
  • 2 tbsp fresh coriander chopped
  • 6 hot dog buns
  • 2 tbsp sliced jalapenos (optional)
  • 2 tbsp sliced burger gherkins (optional)
  • Mayonnaise as required ( use vegan mayonnaise for vegan option)
  • Mustard sauce as required
  • butter to toast the buns

Instructions
 

  • Heat oil in a large deep pan or kadhai on medium heat. Once the oil is hot, add cumin seeds and let them crackle.
  • Add chopped onion and saute until they are light golden. Add chopped chillies, ginger and garlic and saute for a few more minutes.
  • Add chopped peppers and saute for 3-4 minutes.
  • Next, add chopped tomatoes with salt to taste. Let the tomatoes cook until they are soft and mushy.
  • Add turmeric powder, coriander powder, red chilli powder and pav bhaji masala. Mix everything together and cook on medium heat until oil starts oozing from the sides.
  • Add paneer, ketchup and red chilli sauce and mix everything nicely. After 2-3 minutes add garam masala. Finish with chopped fresh coriander and turn off the heat.
  • Take the hot dog buns, make a horizontal slit in the center without going all the way through. Carefully fill the paneer stuffing in it. Repeat with all buns.
  • Next, melt some butter in a large flat pan over medium heat. Gently toast the stuffed buns from both sides. Toast all the buns from both sides until lightly charred.
  • Serve immediately with a squeeze of mayonnaise and mustard sauce. If you like you can top the buns with sliced jalapenos and pickled gherkins.
