Pizza wrap/Pizzadilla

Pizza wrap/Pizzadilla

A Pizzadilla or Pizza wrap is a quick and easy lunch or dinner idea made with very simple ingredients. A pizzadilla is simply a quesadilla filled with all your favorite pizza toppings. This delicious fusion of warm gooey pizza and crisp quesadilla is ready in 20 minutes and its fully customizable with your choice of ingredients.

Ingredients:

Pizza sauce: Any store bought pizza sauce will work or you can use marinara sauce.

Flour Tortillas: Large tortillas work better as they can fit good amount of toppings .Those with gluten sensitivity can easily use gluten free tortilla.

Cheese: I like to use shredded mozzarella but cheddar will work too.

Veggies: Onions, peppers, mushrooms and olives work well. Use any vegetable you have on hand. Some pickled jalapenos will add a spicy kick to it.

Seasoning:  I used Italian seasoning. Pizza seasoning can also be used.

Basil : For authentic Italian flavor.

Ingredients

  • 2 large Flour Tortillas
  • 4 tbsp Pizza Sauce or Marinara sauce (Store bought)
  • 1 cup Mozzarella cheese shredded (or Cheddar)
  • 1/4 cup Onions thinly sliced
  • 1/4 cup Bell peppers Capsicum, sliced
  • 2-3 Mushrooms thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp Black olives sliced
  • 1 tbsp Pickled Jalapeños optional, for a spicy kick
  • 1 tsp Italian Seasoning or Pizza Seasoning
  • 6-7 Fresh Basil leaves torn

Instructions

  • Prepare the Tortilla. Place a large flour tortilla on a clean, flat surface. Use the knife to cut the tortilla wrap outwards from the centre
  • Spread about 1 tablespoon of pizza sauce evenly on one half of the tortilla.
  • On next quarter , sprinkle a generous amount of shredded mozzarella. Layer your prepared vegetables (onions, peppers, mushrooms, and olives) in the next quarter.
  • Sprinkle basil and jalapeno (optional) in the final quarter.
  • Sprinkle the Italian seasoning. Add another small sprinkle of cheese on top of the veggies; this acts as "glue" to keep the wrap together when folded.
  • Then fold each quarter onto the next in a clockwise direction so that the result is a triangle shaped wrap.
  • Grill the pizza wrap in a preheated sandwich grill or just toast the pizza wrap in a pan without oil over moderate heat.
  • Press down gently with a spatula. Cook for 2-3 minutes until the bottom is golden brown and crispy. Carefully flip the wrap and cook the other side for another 2 minutes, or until the cheese is completely melted and the exterior is toasted.
  • Remove from the pan and let it rest for a minute so the cheese sets slightly. Serve hot with the Creamy Garlic Dip or additional marinara sauce.
  • Enjoy!

Notes

Crispy Tip: Keep the heat on medium-low. If the heat is too high, the tortilla will burn before the cheese inside has a chance to melt properly.
Variations: You can add protein like paneer cubes, tofu, or cooked corn to make it more filling.
Pre-cooking Veggies: If you prefer your onions and mushrooms to be very soft, sauté them in a pan for 2 minutes before adding them to the wrap.
Storage: These are best eaten fresh, but you can reheat them in a dry pan to regain the crispiness.
