Falafel Pita Sandwiches are very flavorful and one of the most beloved of Middle Eastern food. Warm Pita bread stuff with crispy falafels, sliced onion and tomatoes, crunchy cucumber , some pickled chilli and cooling tzatziki (yogurt based sauce) drenched with delicious hummous….these sandwiches are super tasty and filling.
Tzatziki is a traditional Greek ,yogurt and cucumber based sauce which is made by mixing thick Greek yogurt with grated cucumber, grated garlic, olive oil ,salt and finely chopped dill and /or mint with lemon juice. It is available readymade in supermarkets as well at fresh dips counter. I used store bought for this recipe.
There are many varieties of hummous available in supermarkets these days. Our favorite is roasted red pepper hummous and lime hummus. You can play around with other varieties as well.
For falafels, there are ready mixes available in supermarkets and Indian grocery stores. You just need to mix water, make small balls and deep fry / bake them . I deep fried the falafels .
