Bread Pizza

Bread Pizza is one of the quickest and easiest recipe you can make for breakfast, lunch, dinner or simply as a snack! Everybody loves these mini bread pizzas, specially the kids! In this pizza, bread slices are used as pizza base and hence there is no need to make the dough, however the toppings are same as the traditional pizza ! If you have bread slices, pizza sauce , your choice of veggies , some seasonings and cheese , then it hardly takes 15-20 minutes to satisfy your pizza cravings!!

A few important tips to make the best bread pizza before we start the recipe! I would recommend using white bread slices for the pizza as it would give the best result! Brown bread, multi grain bread might not give very good results! You can add various vegetables and toppings according to your preference! Also , I have sauteed the onions and peppers slightly as my kids prefer it like that, you can leave them raw.

Lastly, I have made the pizza in oven, but if you are making it on a tawa or griddle, make sure to use heavy bottom pan and cook it on very low flame or it can get burnt.

Ingredients:

  • Bread slices: 6-7
  • Green Pepper: 1, medium sized, sliced or cubed in medium size pieces
  • Red Pepper: 1, medium sized, sliced or cubed in medium size pieces
  • Onion: 2, sliced or cubed
  • Olives : 1/4 cup, sliced  (optional)
  • Pickled Jalapenos: 1/4 cup (optional)
  • Sweetcorn: 1/2 cup
  • Sundried tomatoes in oil : 1/4 cup, chopped (optional)
  • Pizza sauce : 1 cup (home made or store bought – I used store bought )
  • Pizza Cheese/ Mozzarella : 1 cup, grated
  • Italian seasoning/ Pizza Seasoning : as required
  • Chilli flakes: as required
  • Black Pepper : as required
  • Butter : 2-3 tbsp
  • Oil – 1tbsp

Method:

  • Heat 1 tbsp oil in a non stick pan and add sliced onions, sliced peppers and sweetcorn and stir fry them on medium high flame for 3-4 minutes until they are slightly cooked yet crunchy. Add salt and 1 tsp Italian seasoning to it. Switch off the flame and keep them aside. (this step is optional and you can leave the veggies raw if you wish )
  • Apply butter on bread slices and lightly toast until slightly golden in a pop up toaster. You can toast the bread on a thick tava/griddle as well. Just keep the flame low. If you want to toast slices in an oven, preheat the oven to 180 degree centigrade and lightly toast  for 3-4 minutes.  Don’t overcook the bread. Toasting prevents the bread slices from turning soggy.
  • Transfer the bread slices to a plate and apply pizza sauce in a thin layer.
  • Place the cooked peppers and onions , sweetcorn, jalapenos, olives and chopped sun dried tomatoes over the pizza sauce. You can use any topping you like and skip any topping you don’t prefer.
  • Spread generous amount of grated cheese on vegetables.
  • Sprinkle Italian seasoning, chilli flakes and little freshly ground black pepper on it.
  • Line a baking tray with parchment paper and carefully put the bread slices on it.
  • Bake in a preheated oven at 180 degrees for 6-8 minutes until the cheese melts and golden spots appear at some places.
  • If making on a stovetop, heat a heavy bottom tava or griddle and toast the bread slice ,covered ,at low heat. Toast until the cheese melts.
  • Serve hot immediately! Enjoy!!
